Larkn

Larkn, (Kristen Mercado) adopted her artist name after starring in Once Upon a Mattress as Lady Larken in high school . Born in Michigan, but Boston and LA trained (Berklee College of Music) Larkn crafted songs based on her experiences as a well-traveled musician and has landed back in her Ann Arbor roots. She passionately pledges, after overcoming the difficulty of a health scare in Los Angeles, without irony, through her music and her newly-created Ann Arbor-based record label (Better From Here Music) , which aims to help artists, that it's going to get better.

Kristen was classically trained on piano and voice and has traveled the US performing, songwriting and fine-tuning her music to the sweet key of listenable, likable, quirky tunes guaranteed to cheer you up on bad day and satisfy your ear. As she serenades in a memorizing Mezzo-soprano range, with catchy pop twists and grabbing one-liners, her star-like stage charisma is as calming as the composure of her bird-like voice.

She performs with passion, humor and without holding back or losing sight of herself, making her an exciting performer to both watch and hear.

Kristen’s first recorded project, a six song EP Make It The Most was tracked at Big Sky Sound and is expected to come out in early 2024. Tracks Love Me Like A Woman and The Start perfectly demonstrate her ability to craft songs that speak to simple, relatable human experiences.

She continues to elevate her knowledge of music in Washtenaw Community College’s audio production and engineering certificate program and digital media arts courses where she runs a student-led club of audio and video students called WAVES.
